    Beginners welcome (limited spaces)

Complete beginners are welcome to join our Ashtanga Yoga Retreat. Please visit the classes section on the website to find out more about how the Ashtanga Mysore Style practice for beginners works.

    The Shala

The Shala is a charming old farm barn with a beautiful pitched beam roof. It is equipped with a log burner, which we light every morning before class.

September mornings can be mild or feel slightly chilly. Therefore, we do recommend bringing warm socks, a jumper and jogging trousers to cover up in rest, as well as warmish Yoga clothes, in case you like it hot.

Please bring your own Yoga Mat.
We bring blankets to keep you cosy during rest.

  • Rumleigh Farm is a 17‑acre organic farm located in the Tamar Valley - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The farm is directly on the riverbank, nestled among orchards and wild gardens, with beautiful hiking routes all around. It’s also just a few minutes drive away from Dartmoor National Park, one of England’s largest nature reserves.

Our hosts, Louise and Andrew, as well as our Retreat Chef Joe will live at the Farm with us. With these lovely people supporting us, the farm is exclusively ours during the retreat. Whether you want to find a quiet (garden) corner just for yourself or connect with the group - there is space and plenty of beautiful spots to for you to do exactly that.

Rest and retreat or wander and explore. Rumleigh Farm offers both, in a comfortable and beautiful, down to earth, personal environment. Step outside, let time slow down and retreat to nature: wander barefoot through wild gardens, stroll through blooming orchards and across meadows, following winding paths down to the quiet riverside. Or snuggle up in front of a log-burners, meditate in the Shala or enjoy fresh tea and snacks in our communal kitchen.

The Tamar river is located directly on the edge of the farm. There is a deck for private access to the river, where you can rest in the sun, go for a small-stand-up-paddle or a cold dip / swim. There is a small boat shed at the river bank that offers shelter close to the water’s edge.

The wood-fired hot tub is available for all retreat guests to enjoy in small groups. Perfect to soak, unwind, and relax under the open sky.

Massages can be booked on site. Louise and Andrew have a network of local massage therapists who visit the Farm upon request. We’ll have an up-to-date price list available at the retreat.

  • Rooms

Each room at Rumleigh Farm carries the Farm’s history and has an individual character. The rooms are historic, with a rustic and down-to-earth feel, yet renovated with an eye for the details and up-to-date modern standards.

Furnished comfort in mind, all rooms come with organic natural bed linen, soft towels and high-quality mattresses.

Every corner of the property feels authentic and intentionally created to make you feel at home.

    Bathrooms

Some rooms include private ensuite bathrooms, while others share well-kept facilities. Towels are provided.

    Every room has a hairdryer.

Please check the different pricing options when booking to choose what suits your needs best.

    Camping

Rumleigh Farm welcomes both tents and camper vans, with access to warm showers and toilets. You will need to bring your own tent, towels and bedding.

    Clothes Washing

Everybody staying for 2 weeks has one free washing load included. A small amount of additional laundry might be possible on request and will be charged with 10 GBP per load. Our hosts use eco-friendly organic detergent.

We encourage you to share washing loads with your roommate or fellow Yogis, to save resources and get multiple colours washed.

    Free Wi-Fi

There is free Wi-Fi available on the farm.

  • Organic Farm-to-Table Nourishment

All meals are included and freshly prepared on-site by our retreat chef Joe, using seasonal produce in a true farm-to-table approach. Expect colourful plates full of vibrant flavours — crisp, freshly harvested vegetables, fragrant herbs, and fruits that taste of the season.

Much of what you’ll enjoy comes straight from Rumleigh Farm, certified organic by the Soil Association in 2025, with the remainder sourced from trusted nearby growers and small suppliers who farm organically or use unsprayed, regenerative practices.

Every dish is created to be as delicious as nourishing — balanced in flavour, easy to digest yet nutrient-packed and designed to leave you feeling light, satisfied, and energised. Recipes are wholesome and vegan by default, with vegetarian options available. Eggs come from the Farm’s own chicken.

All meals will be served as a buffet, with several options for you to choose what you prefer.

If available from our trusted suppliers, you can once a week request locally line-caught fish and meat from Rumleigh Farm’s own small pig herd - respectfully raised, allowed to live naturally and used exclusively for the farm’s own kitchen.

Fish and Meat are offered as optional extras, and are not included in the retreat price. Prices will be set fairly to support both local farmers and fishmongers without unnecessary mark-ups, to make them fair for everyone. Availability may vary, making each occasion a special farm/water-to-table treat.

All foods connect you to the unique flavours and rhythms of the Tamar Valley through truly local, seasonal ingredients.

Joe, our chef, specialises in plant-based, wholesome retreat food made from natural ingredients, with a focus on holistic nourishment, nutrient availability, digestibility and memorable taste experiences.

He creates the menu and crafts each dish with intention and passion, layering flavours and textures to bring out the very best of each ingredient and make every meal a highlight. You can read more about him and his philosophy on Satori Food.

There will be 24/7 access to tea and coffee, with teas being a selection of fair-traded organic teas and herbs harvested from the farm. Both caffeinated and decaff coffee will equally be organic fair-trade-quality and available for you to prepare yourself.  Alongside milk from next door’s cows and organic plant based-alternatives.

  • The Shala will be available for meditation and as a quiet place after the morning Mysore practice and outside of workshop times. You are free to use it anytime to meditate and be quiet whenever you like. We may do spontaneous guided or silent group meditations, depending on everyone’s plans for the day.

  • Set in the heart of the Tamar Valley, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Rumleigh Farm is surrounded by rivers, orchards, and rolling hills. The moment you step outside, you can wander along riverside paths, explore quiet country lanes and climb to vantage points with sweeping valley views. The local river ferry can collect you from the farm's private river access to explore the Tamar valley from the water.

Each week we’ll venture out together on a group excursion once, exploring the landscape beyond the farm. The destination will be decided depending on group, weather, available transport options, energy and mood.

The Tamar Valley Line is a 35 minute walk from the farm for a train ride that winds through some of England’s most scenic countryside to Calstock and the historic Cotehele House. The local train station at Bere Alston also has regular trains to the port.city Plymouth which takes around 23 minutes.

Dartmoor National Park is located a 15-30 minute drive away. Dartmoor is one of England's largest and most impressive nature reserves. Expect dramatic landscapes with tors, wild moorland, fast running rivers and endless hiking trails that make you feel miles from anywhere. We can recommend places to visit and/or walks to go on.

The southwest coast path is located within a 1-2 hour drive and runs all around the UK’s coastline. Tom grew up in the area and knows all the best places to visit if you want to go on an extended day trip.

Mountain biking & Cycling on the Tamar Trails

Located nearby, the Tamar Trails provide approximately 25 km of dedicated off-road mountain biking trails suitable for families and committed bikers alike. These trails feature gentle, compacted stone tracks with some steeper gradients, catering to various skill levels. The terrain is well-suited for mixed-ability groups, with options for longer and more challenging rides.

You can bring your own bike or rent some from local companies.
    Their Website: tamartrails.co.uk.

The Gawton Gravity Hub is a dedicated downhill mountain biking area, just a 15-minute cycle from the farm. It is used for Olympic Qualifications and visited by professional mountain bikers from all over the world. It is accessible with a day pass for dedicated skilled bikers who bring their own bikes.

  • Here’s a little inspiration to help you pack for the retreat. Early to mid-September in the Tamar Valley typically means mornings around 14 °C and mild afternoons of about 19 °C, so layers are key. The sun still has strength and makes it feel warmer; however, the wind can be chilly. UK waters are the “warmest” at this time of year.

    What you really need

    • Your own Yoga mat.

    • Long yoga clothes if you like it very warm (we’ll heat the Shala with the log burner).

    • Your own toiletries (Toothpaste, Shower Gel, Haircare).

    • A reusable tin to take brunch snacks.

    • A water bottle and/or (insulated) tea bottle to refill and take on day trips.

    Optional but Nice to Have

    • Rainproof gear (September is mostly lovely, but it’s the UK, so be prepared for anything).

    • Suitable waterproof shoes for walking in nature.

    • Swimwear for the river and any trips to the sea.

    • Headlamp for morning or evening walks.

    • Wetsuit (we recommend 3/4 mm for long stays in the water, but a 2/3 summer suit is sufficient for a strong swim or quick dip).

    • A good book for downtime (there are also many books at the farm).

    • A Mountain bike (or off-road suitable bike).
